two Navy officials May soon see disciplinary action for their role in the death of Manalapan native Kyle Mullen more than 2 years after the 24-year-old Navy SEAL trainee died completing the notoriously difficult hell week due to what multiple autopsies determined was untreated pneumonia now a lawyer for one of those officers facing blame recently confirmed the Navy will convene Administrative Hearings to determine what if any repercussions they'll face Kyle mother Regina Mullen has been on a yearslong quest to get answers and justice for her son she joins me now for the latest Regina it's good to talk to you again um of course an administrative hearing does not bring back your son it does not erase um the tragedy that your family has been through but is it encouraging that it seems as though some closure may be had at least for these two men it's kind of difficult for me to answer because Navy law is different than civilian law I mean the process takes long and I don't know what took so long and I just feel like um maybe they're not under oath and if they lie they can't go to jail I just know that Gary spewing lies um and I don't have a voice for that and thank you for having me because what he's saying steroids has nothing to do with it he's a liar it's under his command if the men are all doing it enlarged heart can be caused by aggressive exercise a lot of athletes have enlarged Hearts but regardless of those two things he died of untreated pneumonia and that's facts and not only my son but three others the same day had pneumonia that were cleared that day and they all went to the hospital after my son died one was intubated two were given oxygen so his statement's Incorrect and when he's talking about steroids in his car you know that's like saying if I share my car with someone who has smoked cigarettes and I leave a pack of cigarettes in my car does that mean I smoke if if I did smoke and I died of pneumonia did the cigarettes cause it no so his that's just to give you an analogy he's he's just trying to turn the narrative I don't know what he's trying to do giri you're talking about is is just to clarify for our for our listeners our viewers is Captain Brad G who was um in command of these seal trainees of which Kyle was a part of and he has recently been on I guess we could say a media blitz um to talk about this particular case and he has been blaming Kyle's death on um steroid use yeah it's disgusting because my son's dead he doesn't have a voice and he's really that's such a bad character for him to do that because he knows how my son died he's a liar and that's what just his heart very hurtful to me because the first investigation was done by the seals investigating themselves like I said all along that's not not okay and the uh Admiral William ler didn't sign off on that and then I pushed for an independent investigation which was still inside the Navy but outside the seals and they uncovered all you know the evidence I had nothing to do with that um I didn't say put Gary in jail I didn't say anything that I couldn't do that to a father of four I just wanted him in trouble and that those in trouble that needed to be in trouble and changes that were needed to make for the the Medical Care especially for these young men or the instructors that were abusing the men they weren't sleeping the the six hours that are were protocols the first three weeks they're making them go off base to a Ace Hardware Store spending their own money to buy a buds box from a retired seal who owns that store I mean there's a lot of things going on wrong there it's all you know it's very abusive what was happening to believe under his command I think the changes I don't know they they redact a lot of things I just know what I hear from the men I know when my son called me he was out of breath and I can't imagine him being cleared that day when he was given oxygen twice that morning do anticipate do you anticipate being called for these Administrative Hearings Regina do you anticipate that you'll I don't know when it is I'm heard they're gonna happen um I'm hearing they're potentially in carnado I think I can go it's close to the public I mean I don't know a lot about Navy procedures I I hear that I can go and state with the men have said to me or my what my my own son had said to me when he was alive the failur that he couldn't go to the hospital or outside buds medical or he'd be dropped and that would deem him a quitter and he'd never wanted to be known as a quitter um you know even giri himself when I first met when I met him out in California he goes to me Well ma'am I heard your son uh said he didn't want to go to Medical twice because they're told pain is not what you say it is keep going so he was forging ahead forging ahead he doesn't know if you're sick Delirious hypoxic you don't know your condition you count on that medical team to send you where you need to be he was given oxygen twice Friday morning so gir's a lying saying he was fine he was given oxygen at 83% with crackling lungs which is fluid it doesn't magically dissipate let me ask you check yeah let me ask you Regina with the time we have left about this open letter that was published today by a former Navy physician Dr Mark Hardman um it was an apology to Kyle and he essentially said from his time overseeing some of these programs he was failed that he would still be alive today had the medical care been given yes I said it from day one he was sick Wednesday of hell week it's in the documentation he tried to get help Thursday night he was given oxygen twice if he was sent to the hospital for a check x-ray or even blood work they would know he had pneumonia he was spitting up blood and swollen and couldn't breathe I I heard heard him not breathing on the phone I thought he was going to going to be taken care of I would have kept calling him I even sent a text messages I showed it to the news on Good Morning America how I was so worried and I'm thinking Medicals there are supporting him you have an admiral and a commander all standing there they sent the medical team home young men in his room witnessed him turned blue when he laid flat I told Gary the head of the bed should have been up the kid that was intubated was sitting up so the fluid went to the bottom of his lungs he died in untreated pneumonia bacterial pneumonia I mean he would if he was intubated just for 24 hours given antibiotics he'd be alive and it's sickening to me how he had to suffer he was suffocating Delirious didn't even remember calling me some of the men said he was and they called they called the Medics the buds medic the boy in the room called that poor that poor young man I feel horrible for him and I I talk to him because I I'm worried about him he's not responsible he's not a medic he he tried to call get help from buds medical and they told him no one was on beach and if he goes outside buds medical he'd be dropped my son just thought he'd sleep he doesn't know how bad his condition is he's not a doctor he doesn't young men don't know their condition that's what the medical is for and just how he got that bad is the instructor's fault and man G's in charge of it all and he said he's made changes no they reverted it back to what it used to be under his command I've heard there was changes made trying to keep the attrition late low so they weren't documenting the the injuries during he the training they were making them quit first so then they went to medical and they weren't documenting it that's what he was doing under his command as you've pursued this Regina more and more um seal candidates seals have come out and um offered their public support and thanks to you for pursuing this um and hoping for some reforms Regina Mullen thank you so much for coming on with me thank you so much
