In 1966, Ione, Steele, and Mrs. Pike (Jeannette) Burden began donating their 440 rural and wooded acres and farmland to LSU. Located in what is now the heart of Baton Rouge, the family wanted to ensure the protection and care of the flora and fauna, the lush landscapes and the agricultural heritage that now comprise Burden Museum & Gardens.
