Oh, there is no better time to talk Louisiana college football than on a Sunday night in no better place it right here on Postgame Notes on LP.
It's great to have you with us.
He is my Super Bowl champion partner, Scott Shanley, and I'm Victor.
You know, Scott, it always seems to happen around this time of college football year.
Look, on the national scale, Oregon had a close one.
Indiana had a close one.
These teams start to feel like there's some things that they're really playing for.
And when it's on the line, we had a couple of them for our state teams.
This weekend gets a little tight.
They get tight and you find out, you find if you can win in different ways.
Teams get used to winning in a certain way, and then you get into late October, early November, and other teams have all your film.
They know what you do well and they're trying to stop it now.
Can you take advantage of what they're trying to do to you?
So yeah, a couple good games yesterday.
But those types of wins galvanize you for the playoffs and help you to later on down the road.
Yeah, we had a lot of drama for several of our teams here in the state.
Some on the positive side, some on the heartbreaking side.
And we are going to get to it here in the next 60 minutes.
Here's a look at what's coming up here on this edition of Postgame Notes.
We'll go to Titletown in Tuscaloosa.
The LSU Alabama game coming after five for the last week and a half, but they finally got to it on the field.
Unfortunately, more disappointment for the Tigers.
How about that mega showdown in the Southland Conference between Southeastern and Lamar?
It was a slugfest.
We'll take it down and show you the highlights there and then the agony of defeat.
Maybe the agony of the foot.
A career long that put the Bulldogs on the short end against Delaware.
All that and more coming up here in the next 60 minutes.
But let's start in the American with the Tulane Green Wave who one week ago against Texas, El Paso or Texas San Antonio rather.
The only way you could describe it is flat out disappointing.
They got blown out in the Alamo City, but now there's a chance to rebound.
They were up in Memphis off of Beale Street, taking on a very good Tigers team that right now was in the guide position in terms of being one of the teams to get into the playoff system from one of the smaller conferences.
Well, two of the hotter names on the coaching carousel right now, Ryan Silver Field from Memphis and of course, Johnson, all for two length.
First play of the game, Jake Retzlaff showing what kind of night it was going to be.
Drops back to pass.
Hits Chaz Preston in stride.
Drops it perfectly 65 yards Scott when we look at it again basically Chaz Preston said I can outrun you.
And he just goes, this is why you get those playmakers on the outside.
Because you get these one on one matchups.
You give the quarterback time.
You have a good quarterback, he can make that delivery.
Then you make a play with speed down the field.
Just go deep and I'll hit you.
And he did in Tulane just like that.
Has a seven nothing lead but Memphis answers.
They've got a very good quarterback too.
And Brandon Lewis he goes down the middle to Jamari Hawkins 55 yards.
Almost the same looking type pass just going the other direction.
We are tied at seven.
But back come the Greenway.
It's a ten play drive capped off with Jalen Gordon getting into the end zone from five yards out.
And it's 14 seven Tulane on the road.
Very first play of the second quarter.
Arrington made looks keeps goes.
He's running 21 yards untouched to the end zone.
And we're tied at 14.
But Tulane comes right back six plays 75 yards.
How many times we've seen this with Jake Retzlaff 33 yards.
He takes it into the end zone and it's 2114 Tulane defense gets a stop.
And that leads to a three play drive.
Retzlaff to Anthony Brown.
Stephens 54 yards.
And at this point in the ballgame Retzlaff has not had an incompletion.
It's 2814 Tulane.
Memphis threatens inside the 23rd and 11 Brandon Lewis gets the sack.
Huge play for Tulane's defense.
Memphis has to settle for field goal.
Tulane, though, does not settle once again, going 75 yards.
Retzlaff hits Preston again for another touchdown.
Chaz Preston, how many do you have?
Two 3517 Tulane is on top.
Tulane opens the second half with a field goal.
Makes it 3817.
But we go to the fourth.
First play of the quarter.
Frank Pleasant keeps it.
Takes it in from two yards out.
It's 3825.
Green wave then go three and out.
It's offsides on Tulane so it's a free play.
Memphis takes advantage of it.
And look at the catch Brandon Lewis to Brady.
Close look at the catch.
He makes an incredible catch.
Oh it's 3832.
But under two minutes to go.
Tulane can put it away with a first down.
And Jake Retzlaff gets the first down on third and four.
He gets exactly what he needs.
He hits the turf.
And it's a big time bounceback for Tulane as they get the win on the road at Memphis.
3832.
I'm so proud of our guys for their resiliency.
For their response.
You know, we talked a lot about response.
This week.
And just like, you know, bad things are going to happen sometimes and it's always going to be great to times be perfect.
There's going to be, you know, sometimes you go stumble in the game of football and in life, but nobody's going to feel sorry for you.
And sometimes people are going to be negative about you, and you just got to keep showing up and have a good attitude and go back to work.
I'm proud of them doing that.
I thought, man, so cool to see how our group responded.
Very, very, proud of them throughout the year.
Man, we've had that success and we just did a great job finishing drives in the red zone especially.
I think that would be the highlight of the night in the first half is we finished drives in the red zone and a couple of areas we need to because we're taking those shots and we're catching them and scoring with them.
And I think that's like goes to show these receivers man that plan another level.
Those guys who made plays tonight, they caught and scored.
Then it kind of looking back, what we did, they kind of took like a realization to be like, hey, like there's some stepping up that needs to be done.
You know what I mean?
So whether it is and it helps that same Howard is back first and foremost.
You know what I mean?
But other than that, there is some stepping up that needs to be done.
And so we took the time to kind of look at ourselves.
We got together as a defense.
And we just made that the emphasis all throughout the week and in our season at this point in time is, is a change of game every week.
There's no other options about it.
And so for us, we knew we had to be one to know this week.
And that's what we say every week.
But the stress is obviously higher and higher.
November football is what they remember, right?
November games is the games they remember.
And so like we knew we had to win this one.
And also November Games is who decides to go to what championships and whatnot.
And so that's a good football team.
And we play well.
It's not about the next three games.
It's about just like, hey, let's wake up tomorrow, let's go to the training room, let's get our guys bodies right.
Let Sunday give them an academic day and let's Monday get ready for the next one like I don't I don't know that this team right now we're mature enough to worry about like, okay, we're in control of our own destiny.
Let's let's go worry about the next three weeks.
Like, let's just freaking worry about today.
I got worried about all those dudes showing up the airplane in about an hour with their IDs.
Know, like, that's what this group's like.
Coaching right now.
This group, I'm, like, worried that they all have their ID.
We go back to the plane right.
But let's let's just the best.
3832 Tulane gets the win.
It's red flag throws for 375 yards for touchdowns.
That one rushing touchdown plus three through the air six sacks and ten tackles for loss for the Green Wave defense.
We're back in action next weekend with the sweet new threat at home.
And they take on Florida Atlantic.
You can tell Scott listening to them they took that loss at Texas San Antonio personally because they got run out of the arena at the Alamodome one week ago.
But what a great response to go to a team in Memphis that's leading the charge to be in the playoff system.
Now Tulane put a big bump into that.
Yeah.
And I think going back to last week, what was so shocking about that loss on the road is Tulane is one of the most games of anybody since 2022.
On the road.
So they got shocked.
But I think a great sign of of a well-coached team and a high character team is how you bounce back from adversity.
Every team faces adversity no matter where you are, what level of football you're playing, what sport you're playing.
It's how do you bounce back from it.
And I think there's a very well coached team to come out.
Run up 35 points in the first half against a Memphis team.
Has had one loss on the year.
I think it was a great bounce back game and you just mentioned to take a look since 2022, how have teams done on the road?
Well, the team leading the charge is the Tulane Green Wave because they now with that win at Memphis have 18.
That's better than Oregon SMU Ohio State and James Madison by the way those teams all on the road.
They all won as well.
But Tulane leading the pace since 2022.
And that goes to speak so highly of John Summerall Scott, which is probably why his name is being tossed around right now in the coaching carousel, because when you can take your team on the road and do that consistently ahead of all those other teams, he's got a lot to offer, and rightfully so.
I, I think coach Summer is one of the best coaches in the country.
I see so many similarities when I see him speak and watch him the way he he demands excellence from his team, but he still jokes about them.
I see a lot of Sean Payton in Coach Summer.
I think coach from like the coach at the NFL level.
I really think he's that good of a coach, a motivator.
He demands excellence from his players and his players play hard for him.
Sometimes you get beaten down by that as a player, so there's got to be a balance there.
It's got to be a joking side.
The game's got to be fun, but I think it's also the perfect pairing.
You have a great head coach and a really good quarterback, and it's just a perfect marriage, and that's still trading out through the rest of the team.
Speaking of the quarterback, let's take a look at Jake Retzlaff in action because what a first half he had.
As you mentioned he had to throw his first incompletion.
Actually his first incompletion wasn't even an incomplete pass.
It was a drop.
He hit his tight end right in the hands.
Who dropped the ball.
But he was so red hot in the first half.
He had his first ten passes.
Now there was some regression Scott in the second half as the offense went cold.
More on that in just a moment.
But we have seen how good Jake Watson has been considering he got to campus so late in the off season, yet has really picked up the assistant to lead the charge.
He's been outstanding.
He's been one of the best portal, transfers of the offseason.
I think when you look at his fit into what the twins asked him to do early in the year, it was his legs to utilize his legs.
He found a way to get it done.
Now you see the passing game come alive.
Sims weapons on the outside.
They're making explosive plays down the field that makes them dangerous.
They held on in the second half and got a little bit of a conservative.
Let the defense do their thing.
But I think when you get things going with the legs and now deep downfield defenses grab a tough way of knowing how to defend you.
Okay.
So to that point now in the second half there were zero passing yards in the fourth quarter for Retzlaff, 22 rushing yards in the fourth quarter.
The second half overall was sluggish.
The fourth quarter was abysmal.
But then we go to your side of the ball because it was time for the defense to step up, and they did in a big way when the offense went cold in the second half.
It's specifically in the fourth quarter.
Here's what the defense was able to do for the Tulane Green Wave.
They needed to step up on the road.
Memphis is getting that momentum.
So what did that Greenway defense do Scott two sacks in the fourth quarter.
They got an interception.
And then there was a fourth down Memphis had to get it and Tulane denied it.
When you needed it the most.
Complementary football.
The defense can make a plays when the matter of the most.
That's what it's about.
Sometimes it's hard to play defense when you have a lead, as crazy as that sounds.
You know, we had number nine Drew Brees for a while where they jump out to leads.
And now you're playing defense really the whole second half.
So you're playing basic vanilla coverages.
Sometimes offenses take advantage of that.
But it's about making the play plays when they matter most.
Memphis scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Things got a little tight.
But then they stepped up and said less points.
You're saying we're not going to lose another one big win for Tulane.
On the road before they return home next week.
And a lot of hype for that game.
There's usually a lot of hype when LSU takes on Alabama, whether it's in Tuscaloosa or whether it's in Baton Rouge, but because of what has happened over the last two weeks in South Louisiana, as we mentioned on Saturday morning show, the football game has kind of been an afterthought between Alabama and LSU, the Crimson Tide.
They were left for dead after losing to Florida State to start the season.
Now their top four in the country.
Meanwhile, LSU was what one time number three in the country now left for dead.
Coaching changes a new president, a new chancellor, a new athletic director all led to what happened Saturday night in Tuscaloosa.
Let's take it back to the highlights and show you how things played out.
Look, it's always a big one.
There's Frank Wilson making his interim head coaching debut for the LSU Tigers.
And here come the tide defense.
Remember what Frank Wilson said.
We want to be more physical.
They actually practiced more physical.
Well early on they've got their shot.
Third and one.
And look at the defense make the stance.
You know what Alabama says we're going for it.
Fourth and one.
And look at the defense collapse again absolutely no yardage.
And they are punt making the big stop.
West Weekes watching his brother West Weekes on the floor.
Coach Baker thrilled with what the defense can do.
LSU then gets it on the offensive side early on.
Fumble for Harlon Berry.
But guess what?
It turns into a positive play for LSU.
He loses the ball but the Tigers jump on it.
But maybe a thing to come a sign of things to come.
Then just to Nick Anderson he makes the catch 16 yards.
First down Damien Ramos and in for the field goal.
And you pushes that one off to the left.
Special teams has actually been a little bit of a struggle when it usually isn't much of a struggle for LSU.
Next possession that's Meyer back to pass.
It's Bowers sharp.
He gets 13 yards but loses the ball.
And Scott I know y'all are taught on defense.
I'm not even sure if that's the that's a that's a punch.
Punch.
Yeah they're teaching.
We used to strip the ball.
Now they're teaching the punch technique for these linebackers and DBS coming from the blind side.
So there's a ball carrier.
You have to cover that ball at all five points.
The cake hill green punches it out literally.
And it puts the Crimson Tide in business.
But the defense does hold.
So Alabama has a 45 yard field goal.
They make it.
And it's three to nothing.
Early second quarter Harlem Berry.
There he goes.
Finds a hole.
This is what LSU has been looking for.
We've seen them get one here or one there.
But you need some more consistently 37 yards.
Maybe that's a sign of things to come or or not rainbows from 30 yards when the offense can't do anything else.
We're tied at three.
Next Bama possession.
Daniel Hill powers his way in from four yards out.
It's close.
They had to look at it but the ball forces the plane right there.
It's good.
It's ten three Alabama under a minute to play in the half.
Ty Simpson is going deep.
And let's hear Brooks is there 63 yards.
Unfortunately for LSU defense we saw too much of this big splash plays by Alabama's passing game.
Next play Simpson to Ryan Williams 13 yards on this one as he climbed the ladder.
Get it at 17 three Alabama same score.
Tigers inside the 15 third and goal.
And Moss is going the wrong way.
He turns right into the defender.
That's a sack and a loss of 14.
And that would be the last time we would see Nuts Meyer on the field for the night.
Ramos comes in, gets another field goal at 17.
Six Tigers still shouting distance early.
Fourth quarter Michael Van Buren is in at quarterback.
He finds Chris Hilton freshman still playing.
What he was saying I mean what the media they weren't be seeing him at all.
The young man makes a huge play there and LSU is moving forward and 13 Van Buren on a rope to Berry and Brown 19 yards on that catch.
First and goal.
Now Van Buren takes a loss trying to stay alive.
Tries to juke move doesn't work.
It's a sack of ten.
So both teams would make more field goals.
And that's it Alabama wins.
LSU does not see the end zone final score of 20 to 9.
A bit of the same old, same old.
Here's Frank Wilson after the game.
Here's what we asked of our team that they go out, and compete and play with a style and brand of football representative of our university.
I thought we did that.
I thought we played hard.
I thought we competed, throughout the duration of the game.
At the end of it, our best wasn't good enough tonight, so we finished second.
But I thought there were some good things that happened.
And there's some things that we continue will continue to need to improve on.
We need to take care of the ball a lot better than than we did.
Three of them on the ground, two of them, picked up by the opponent.
And that was the difference in the game, for us.
And so, I told the team, pick your heads up.
You thought you competed.
There's no more victory.
But there is a lot to be said for for how we played the game.
I thought our defense played extremely well.
You know, you take away some of those big plays that that we gave up.
They weren't necessarily, drives that they just took down the field.
But they did get behind us a couple of times.
I thought Blake Baker, our defensive staff, did an outstanding job game planning.
I thought they gave us opportunities, to be able to compete.
I think, you know, they didn't vegetable extremely well.
We contested passes like we said we wanted to do.
And eventually we were able to start moving, the quarterback off of his mark, which was advantageous for us.
You look at us in our preparation, you look at us in pre game.
You look at how we played this game that wasn't a team that had quit in them.
That wasn't a team that was submissive or not willing to fight back.
It just wasn't our day unfortunately to, to capitalize or to win the football game, but, I thought our kids handled the two weeks well, and I thought they did some things.
Well.
When you're playing against a team like this and you have opportunities, you have to seize the moment.
And we fell short in doing that.
I was hurt for for for our players.
They wanted to win.
I wanted them to have that, to savor that, to have that moment.
And so I hurt for them.
They were extremely disappointed in the locker room, because they prepared so hard and so well.
And so the key was to let them know, pick your chin up, hold your head high, and we'll continue to build off of this, that, there is no disappointment, although, unfortunately, we didn't get the win.
The way you played mattered most.
And so will when you play the number four team in America.
And you put yourself in position, you know, that's something you can build off.
And so we'll build off of that and we'll be better next week.
Really, no other choices for the Tigers then to try to build off of that is I don't see the end zone.
Van Buren replaces Nuss Meyer in the third quarter.
Once again.
Double digit penalties for LSU, ten penalties for 74 yards.
Alabama just had two for 25 yards.
Next game for LSU is an early morning kick against Arkansas next week.
Scott, you hear what he's talking about.
And again when you talk LSU and Alabama you're usually not talking about things like you played.
Well we'll look to improve.
This is usually for the last decade plus this has been a clash.
I mean it is head on head and they're getting at it not so much right now.
It's kind of defines the way this LSU season is going.
Yeah.
This when you look at this LSU season, you went from the start of the season an impressive road win against Clemson.
Talking about SEC Championship, national championship playoffs to now your potential start of the season top three pick in the draft.
Quarterback is being benched.
I mean, a lot has happened in a short amount of time at LSU.
Now it's just about figuring out, you know, there's still you have great recruiting classes.
And that's to your point.
When you get LSU and Alabama together, it's a lot of it's a lot of four stars, a lot of five stars playing.
And you'd expect that type of matchup every single time you guys played.
We heard Frank Wilson say the team had to run more.
They solely wound up with 59 rushing yards.
So not they actually rushed Alabama 5956.
But still it's not there.
You passed more than you ran the ball.
It's just that that consistency.
It's there's just a question what's missing.
There is a something that's missing.
Yeah.
Everybody.
If they fired a coach now they've got a new idea.
They're on a new coach.
So somebody's going to find that golden nugget of what it is.
Whatever it is, it's missing right now.
And there's when you have that question, everybody has that question.
It's not just on the outside of the locker room.
Guys in the locker room have the same question, what do we have to do?
What's going on?
What position group needs to play better?
But I know this.
If I'm a defense coordinator in the country right now and my defense isn't playing well, I'm doing Coach Baker did.
I'm walking to the head coach's office and saying, we want nine on seven this week because our defense completely transformed.
You need those reps to get ready for game type, speed, game type, environment against a good Alabama team.
So defensively much improved, much better effort was there.
Play the run pretty good offensively but remain committed to the game train as green has to get 1010 targets a game.
I understand he's talented.
The Harlem bird needs to touch the ball a lot to get that running game going.
And stay committed to it.
And of course, the big question is going to be we're going to do a quarterback.
Now.
Frank Wilson was asked after the ball game is not familiar.
Now being on the bench, is that going to be a permanent thing?
Is he going to be staying there on the bench.
Will we see him back on the field?
I said, look, I'm not ready to commit to all that right now.
But again, whatever it is is not there for no smart 18 of 21 for Buck 21.
Before he was subbed out in this ballgame, Van Buren came in and show some of it.
But it just goes to the offensive struggles.
Whatever Nuss Meyer has been struggling with this year, it continues.
It is.
And I think you see that play we just watched the sack.
That was the play that the coaching staff said, no more.
We can't do this.
You're rolling into pressure.
You're not helping our offensive linemen.
You can't complain about not having enough time.
So that's on us.
He cannot do that.
You have to step up in the pocket.
If you're gonna play at the next level, you have to stay in the pocket.
I think when I look at it, I'm a little torn on the on the complete benching, because if you're going to make that move, the backup has to come in and he has to he has to perform.
He has to play.
Well, always.
You risk the chance of losing a team.
And that's a real possibility because Van Buren came in 51 for 52 yards, and he only had one yard rushing.
If you're going to utilize his like you have, if you can make the move, it's got to be the right move.
Well, we'll find out if it's a permanent move for LSU when they take on Arkansas next Saturday morning outside of Beaumont, Texas.
It was a knock down drag out.
We thought it would be Southeastern and Lamar.
Two ranked teams in the FCS.
Southeastern looking to hold on the first place in the Southland Conference.
De'Andre Jackson starts out the game with that explosive lie on offense 34 yards.
Big plays.
We're at a premium in this one.
That one.
Who's that close to breaking it and taking it the next play Carson Kemp to Jalen DiMarzio 38 yards there.
And that offense is clicking fourth and one now from the nine Jayden Henry up the middle.
And Lamar's defense stands up stops him.
So instead of taking the points they get stopped.
On a fourth and one from the nine second quarter camp under pressure, gets sacked awkwardly.
Look as he tries to reach towards his leg.
There he would come back and play, but not a very good moment there for the Lions.
Under four minutes to play.
Now we are in the second quarter Robert Coleman the touch pass to Britton Simmons.
He turns the corner and goes 24 yards.
Two minutes to go Coleman to Jakari Hyder.
He goes up the middle for 17 yards.
Now under 30s to go.
And Coleman rolls and finds Hyder again.
Back of the end zone.
You can see on there wide open.
He goes up and grabs it.
First score of the game it's seven nothing Lamar.
Third quarter Lions get their first points Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez from 50.
And it's good.
It's 733 plays later.
Coleman to Xavier Coleman.
And he's going to get popped right there.
And the ball comes out Joshua Randall recovers it from the Lions of Southeastern.
The good shape.
But the offense struggled against.
So for another field goal it's seven six.
Fifth play of the fourth quarter here.
Major Brown up the middle with a major play as he gets into the end zone.
And it's 14 six Lamar.
Would that be enough.
Finally the Lions get the breakout play they've been needing DeAndre Jackson takes it up the middle bounces it left.
Look at that cutback 44 yards later he is inside the 25 yard line.
But once again this high powered lion offense stalled.
So it's another no it's not another field goal.
Jack Hunter what a call by Frank.
Cell phone staff untouched into the end zone.
It's 1412.
Lions go for two.
But Kyle Lowe can't make the move.
A great one on one tackle.
Lions still down by two under two minutes to go.
Lamar's going to run out the clock.
It's just have to hold on to the ball.
And Major Brown has a major mistake because he loses it.
What is on the floor.
Lions get the ball.
They've got one last chance but they get seven yards on three play.
So it's fourth down.
You've got to get a first.
And Carson camp fall sails long and out of bounds.
A disappointing evening in Beaumont for the Lions.
So much on the line.
But they only get into the end zone thanks to that outstanding call on the fake field goal Lamar wins it 14 to 12.
Third down conversion.
You got to do better than that one for 11.
But again the offense just completely struggled.
56 passing yards and 38 of those yards came to the Mojo early in the ballgame.
Now the Lions will try to regroup next weekend at home when they welcome the reigning South and conference champs Incarnate Word.
Let's take your stay in Texas rather sort of taking there.
We'll just stay there.
That's where McNeese was taking on East Texas A&M for breezy opening kicks.
This one in the end zone.
And before you could ask where are your seats.
We've got ourselves a touchdown.
That is a 100 plus yard kick return for East Texas A&M.
We have play all of about 14 seconds and it's seven nothing East Texas A&M on top.
But hey the Cowboys don't panic.
Special teams blunder or not they're going to come right back.
Jake Strong no worries.
He's going to heave this one up to Cameron Senegal.
And he is going to make the catch 39 yards on the catch in the end zone.
And we're tied at seven under three minutes to go in the first quarter.
Nick Johnson with the fair catch.
Or is this a fair.
He calls it fumbles.
It muffs at all Pearson parent jumps on it for McNeese.
Cowboys want to take advantage and they will.
Strong buys time finds an opening and finds Logan Molden right there in the corner.
And he's down out of bounds at the three yard line.
Next play Colby Hamm gets the handoff and punches it in.
And it's 14 seven McNeese now 1410.
Cowboys under three to play in the second field goal.
And it's tipped and it's blocked.
And it's no good.
But the defense says we got your back.
Next play one piece is pass is tipped by the big fellow and Philip Bradford.
So the first pick six for McNeese in five years 2110 Cowboys on top.
Same score in the third Owen 11 yard line Jake Strong Jonathan Harris 26 yards.
And the Cowboys have some breathing room.
Next play strong to Morgan.
This is good for 15 yards.
Now we're out to the midfield stripe.
Next play we saw one big flash pass.
Play a second big pass play.
How about Jake Strong calling his own number off the snap I see four four.
Teach it four runs four is gone 49 yards to the house 28 to 10 McNeese is now on top.
Let's go to the fourth quarter.
It's 2813.
Eric Rodriguez is going for it.
Hits Jayden Proctor for the touchdown 22 yards.
Great catch by Proctor 2820.
Now Cowboys up by eight for McNeese.
Not to be denied on this night.
Second and three.
Ham up the middle out to the outside.
21 yards on this game later it's third and four and Ham closes the deal 29 yards.
He is all alone.
Walters into the end zone.
A last gasp effort for the Lions ends with a Javon Davis interception.
The Cowboys win back to back games for the first time this season.
Let's go to East Texas A&M and win it 35 to 20.
Here's head coach Matt Vautour after the game.
Hard fought I mean really tough game.
You know give up an opening kickoff or a touchdown.
And just part of our players that we fought back did enough defensively created for turnovers defensively which kind of stops and drives I think offense where we end up with over 300 yards rushing and stuff.
So team win no question.
And very hard fought win.
I still think that East Texas A&M as good football team.
What about this running game itself.
So I did I did do I did you know we just kind of kept you know plugging around in there.
Jake out running the ball was helped us for sure of that.
You know, everybody contributed Colby had some really tough runs to us all.
And, and then, of course, the kind of the, the game clinching touchdown, so to speak, was really big was, you know, with nine, ten guys up on the line of scrimmage, we were able to get it blocked and he popped it through.
So really hard fought hard fought win I thought from start to finish defensively you did have the interception.
You also had the first pick six for for McNeese.
Yeah, I think that was what's it mean to be able to you know, how come no defense like that.
Obviously that was the that was the biggest play of the game because you know we had the penalty going in to score.
Then we missed the field goal stuff.
So you know you look you look at going in 1410 us getting the ball the second half you know still makes the deflection and the interception.
You know now it's 21 to 10.
So there's no question that was the biggest play of the game.
You also had some big third down and longs the conversion from Jake being able to run the ball.
Yeah we did you know you ran the ball officially and hit a couple a couple big passes in the second half to kind of get us out of the hole, I thought, and, which was, which was the idea.
And then, of course, they returned to punch out on us, but, you know, at least to get first downs, I'll be punting from our end zone.
Make them try the length of the field to score.
I don't know if you had Philip Bradford on your bingo card as to ending their five year skid on the, pick six.
But if you did, you know more than me.
McNeese gets the win 35 to 20.
Nice.
Solid day from Jake Strong.
Buck 71 passing a buck 36 rushing the Cowboys defense force four turnover and pulling that pick six which was a game changer.
Next up they'll be at home welcoming the highest scoring team in the Southland Conference that beat the Buckaroos from UT Rio Grande Valley.
More on them in a moment.
Let's go to Lafayette, where the raging Cajuns got that big win in South Alabama one week ago outside of mobile, keeping hopes alive to get the six wins and bowl eligibility.
But they know the task ahead of them.
They had to win out, and it started on Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium in Lafayette.
Ragin Cajuns at home facing Texas State the last time these two teams will meet as conference opponents.
As Texas State is headed to the Pac 12.
That sound right does it.
But that's what they're going to pack.
It's a no Pac 12.
It's not the Pac 12 we grew up with, but Texas State will be there nonetheless.
Here we go.
Silent Prairie Scott, I want you to watch.
This is squats.
This is leg work.
This is one, 2345, six seven, eight nine white jerseys.
And he's still going every strength coach around the country.
So proud of that.
Oh 25 yards when it's all said and done with nine white jerseys on his back.
And he kept it moving.
Lunch Winfield said, hey, with that kind of effort, young man, we're going to make it pay off.
He hits Shelton Sampson ten yards and a touchdown at seven.
Nothing.
873.
End of the quarter but time for Lincoln.
Pair to score 54 yards out on the explosive play for Texas State.
And with 30s to go, they have the three point lead on the road.
Second quarter.
Lunch to Kaden Jensen 27 yards here to Jensen all alone.
Waltzes into the endzone 1410.
Reggie Page is back on top.
Brad Jackson back to pass and watch the stalk off the arm off the helmet.
And Cody Jackson is there to intercept it for the Ranger Cajuns, if you don't trip over his own teammate he might take it to distance.
But the Cajuns cash in for plays later.
Bill Davis scores from 12 yards out.
There's that running back ten of it's 21 to 10 Cajuns now up top.
More Cajun defense for plays later Jackson gets swamped from behind.
Fumbles on the sack Cameron Whitfield gets it for the Cajuns inside the 20.
They're in good shape.
Three plays later hey let's make it pay off Winfield Sampson again.
Second time in the ballgame.
Back at the end zone.
They had to look at it.
But it's good for the touchdown 28 to 10 Cajuns starting to pull away.
Bobcats finally get things straight Brad Jackson to Titus.
Lions 24 yards and a touchdown to make it 2817 just before the end of the half.
Winfield with the quick snap keeps it bounces a little to the right, but he's strong enough to get it into the end zone.
And it's 3517.
Raging Cajuns on top 3521.
We go to the fourth quarter.
Winfield again to the right side.
Heads up for the touchdown 42 to 20.
We're in good shape right.
Well here comes Texas State and they start pulling out all the tricks.
Beau sparks the reverse finds some room and he splits it right there.
And now he's gone 49 yards.
And the Bobcats fans just seemingly don't care.
Your team to score people.
It's 4226 now.
Winfield rolls out.
Looks like a simple little toss to us tight end, but it's a little too high.
It's bobble and it's picked off the very next play.
Remember the old trick plays.
Here we go with another one for Texas State because they feel like momentum.
And they're going to do everything they can to get into the end zone.
And they will pitch the toss back.
Oh you can just see it coming.
Both sparks on the other end of the end zone.
This 138 yards in the end zone Texas State's now only down ten three minutes to go.
We found some fans who are excited now three minutes to go Jackson 21 yards to Chris Don junior.
Just like that.
It's 4239.
What the Cajuns are able to hold on.
They get a couple of first downs and run out the clock and they get the win 42 to 39 to keep things alive for bowl to Philly Scott.
We're starting to see a team now with the raging Cajuns that are starting to put things together.
And you're seeing that run again.
We talked about the two headed monster, but it all starts with lunch for Winfield.
What he's been able to do and stabilize things for the quarterback position and he keeps and he continues to play better every single week, especially in the passing game.
And I think the confidence of his team grows around how well your quarterback is playing.
And you know, obviously there's things defensively they want to improve.
Texas State had 528 yards of offense.
So there are things to lock down on defense.
But offensively there's there's improvement every single week 12 and 19 on third down.
That's how you scored all those points early on.
Stayed on the field.
So there's a lot of good things especially in the passing game going yeah.
And with the passing game there's one player we need to focus on and that's Shelton Sampson the former LSU Tiger.
Remember he was injured but he's been back now for three straight games.
And the way that he has played over these last three games he had another big game yesterday.
Overall the last three games 16 catches 292 yards, five touchdowns, all five touchdowns this season.
Scott have come in the last three games.
And it's probably not a coincidence that with him showing up in the passing game getting more consistent, the running game is doing better as well.
That's right.
You get you make those defensive coordinators put two safeties if it opens up the box for the running game, so it all goes hand in hand.
It's all complementary in the way your offense is attacking defenses.
We talked about before the season started we were looking for that Walker Howard to Shelton Samsung connection and it's evolved into the lunch Winfield Shelton Sam's connection.
This is a great sign if you're a Cajun fan to see these two guys getting going in the passing.
It hasn't taken them very long to get together, but they have and they certainly do look very good.
Two games left on the schedule, one at home, one on the road for the region.
Cajuns.
And here's what we mean with those two games.
After a bye week for the Cajuns, they have an extra week to get ready for the stretch run.
Scott at Arkansas State and then against the you all and Warhawk ten.
We know he's had a struggle.
So the path is there for the Cajuns to get to six wins.
Yeah especially with the bye week.
You get rested up get your body right for these last two games.
Get your mind right offensively.
How do you want to finish the season?
What players do you want to target.
You're still evaluating as a coach.
You're still allowing players for the offseason.
So two big games coming up and we'll see what they can do once they take advantage of that bye week.
All right.
Let's turn our attention now to Swac action.
We'll take you up to southern Mississippi, where the Southern Jaguars made the relatively easy drive from Baton Rouge up to Alcorn State to take on the Braves.
The streak has to end for some point for the Jags.
I know it's been a long, long skid since week two of the season, which the last time southern got a win.
So could they end this skid up at Alcorn State.
Well Amarion Asberry gets the runner who I haven't seen much of him but he got a lot of the runs early.
Goes up the middle for 20 yards right there.
Usually we see a lot of Trey Holley early, but we saw a lot of asberry early.
Then Ashton Strother to Malachi Jackson.
He's good for 19 yards inside the ten.
And somebody mentioned Trey Holley.
Yeah we're now we're inside the five.
And it's going to go to Trey Holley.
He punches it in.
Hey Jags are up seven.
Nothing look good with some momentum early.
Second quarter.
Jalen Tolbert to Jamal Kohn takes a hit but holds on to it at the three yard line Reggie Davis will then punch it in from two yards out.
Hits his own man right at the end zone but is able to crawl across the line.
We're tied at seven.
End of the first half.
Braves are able to get another one on the scoreboard 14 seven Alcorn State.
Now the Jags do add a field goal before the end of the half.
So they go into the break down 1410.
Third quarter Tolbert keeps it takes off.
Makes one move.
Dives into the end zone from seven yards out for the score.
And it's 21 to 10.
Here's the problem.
We're playing in the second half.
That's where the Jags struggle to try to close out game.
Jags at the point of the way.
And then just over two minutes later the Braves come right back.
Tolbert to Amarion.
Blake's 18 yards and a touchdown.
It's 28 to 10 Jags.
Offense stalls again.
Again they give it up.
But this time the defense steps up.
Tolbert back to throw Landon Carter has touchdown dreams and he makes them a reality.
Takes it back 43 yards.
And it's 2817 all quick.
While the Jags trying to make a run.
No end of the third.
Tolbert of Tyson citizen five yards here.
He's wide open.
The Jags had seven drives of five plays or less that went 13 yards or less.
Once again they're looking for that consistency and they're not able to find it at Alcorn State 35 to 17 is the final.
It's eighth straight loss for the Jags who only ran for 74 yards.
Alcorn state had 259.
Next up for the Jaguars are back home on the bluff.
Or they will face Texas Southern.
Let's stay in the Swac and head up to North Louisiana.
Here come the dancers.
Here comes the band.
What?
They mean business.
But then Cookman is in town taking on Grambling.
Graham is looking for three in a row, by the way.
Up three.
Nothing.
A little trickery here.
Flea flicker.
Hayden.
Ben walk.
Quarterback up to Andrew Frazier 38 yards for the touchdown.
He celebrating for the touchdown.
It's ten nothing.
Tigers second quarter.
Tiger defense gets some pressure but Timmy McClain gets rid of it.
And Kimani Robinson goes 23 yards inside the 40 yard line.
Now third down from the 11 McClain is going to keep it has left.
He gets into the end zone.
We are tied at ten.
Tigers do respond though.
Watch the bottom of your screen Scott.
Even the receipt.
Watch him in motion.
Watch this.
Yes we got it.
Hand is up.
He knew this one was gone as soon as he saw the rotation.
Wide open here.
59 yards as Nate.
Sean Dickerson gets into the end zone at 1710.
Grambling Bethune-Cookman has a splash play of its own.
McClain to Malik Huggins.
He makes the corner and he does the rest.
61 yards and ties it at 17.
Now Grambling has a 2420 lead at the break.
But coming out of the locker room, we've got a scrum or oh, now we've got punches being thrown.
Here comes the Calvary.
We got all sorts of mess.
We got people looking at cell phones on the sideline, trying to look at replays to see what happened.
Eventually, eight players were ejected from this ball game.
Before we kick things off in the third quarter.
It's still 2420 in the fourth quarter.
Third and ten.
Andre Cruz a tough 11 yards.
Now it's third down inside the ten.
Ben walk to the air again Keith Jones junior into the end zone.
Oh the beautiful wall court is happy with the effort.
Things got ugly.
Things got tense a little bit after the game as well.
But Grambling holds on and they get the win 31 to 23.
Make it three in a row for the Tigers.
We're now seven and three.
Four and two in sac.
Boy what a game for Hayden Wall 220 passing yards four touchdowns.
Grambling dominated on the ground, but soon Cookman just 26 yards trying to rush it.
Next up, southern just went to Alcorn State.
Grambling will take its turn as they go to the reservation next weekend.
The demons from Northwestern State back at home when they welcomed in the reigning Southland Conference champions from a year ago, Incarnate word, who has now started to find its groove after a little bit of a struggle to start the season opening drive for UW.
E.J.
Colson, center Jalen Walthall, 35 yards inside the 20.
A few plays later, same connection, but this time it's worth six fires in the corner.
The end zone and you i.w makes it look easy.
But the demons come right back.
Abram Johnston.
Drops back and finds Ty more and more sees space and he is off to the races.
So close to getting into the end zone.
He's dragged down from behind at the two yard line, but then the demons lose nine yards on the next three plays.
Johnson here sacked for a loss of three.
Then on third down, Johnson pressured and loses eight.
Just a tough way to go for Johnston and company.
They were so close.
But they're going to settle for a field goal.
We know they've had some kicking issues but not on this one.
Good for 28 yards.
And it's seven three UI's dubby but it takes Incarnate Word just five plays to get down the field Tim Carter takes it up the middle.
He knocks it into the end zone.
And it's 14 three.
Second quarter.
Coleman's going to have a little side arm sling.
He's going back to his man wall tall here.
Boom.
Turn one block.
And now he's off.
He is off to the races for 46 yards.
In the end zone.
It's 21 to 3 just over a minute left in the half Kobi Dillon Dillon finds some room 13 yards here.
It's 28 three at the break Blaine McCorkle looking to try to rally his young ball up again.
We've seen some moments.
We've seen some size.
Can they put it all together?
The big explosive plays will kill you.
And you had one in the third.
Tim Carter is off to the races 68 yards on this score.
The defending champs go on to win it 38 to 3 after the ballgame.
Here's coach McCorkle talking about the difficulties of growth and trying to convert in the red zone.
The last few weeks, we've gotten ourself down there close and been able unable to finish the job and put the ball in the end zone.
And we've tried to approach that a couple different ways and style of play.
The big and try to knock it in or spread it out and and do some different things.
But when you get down there, the game definitely changes.
And regardless of if you want to lighten the box or load the box up when you get down there, the game gets really, really physical.
And that's where we're getting exposed a little bit, just with size and strength.
Even in style of changes, style of play when you get down there.
So we got to just keep working to figure it out and try to find answers because we're finding ourselves down there, not coming away with points, and then we can't do that.
And, you know, they got just one more points for their team if you can't finish a drive.
That's a, that's a problem.
You mentioned Tom Moore being back.
I appreciate what he did.
He loves this team as much as anybody.
It was good to have him back.
My Aunt Hicks was back to, And he found some hard yards in there.
You know, he was able to grind out a couple.
I think you got a couple first downs for us.
So it was good to have both of those, older players back in there to help us out a little bit.
I think we continue to play hard.
I think our kids keep fighting.
You know, kind of evidence in that last round of the game where we just ran the ball and got a pile of first downs, and we were able to end it without getting them all back to get another score.
I, you know, get a fourth and one thing of the game and I look up and all those freshmen, they're fighting it out to get a fourth and one.
So I'm very proud of that.
I think in moments our defense played well.
I think in moments we'll probably see on film that we stopped the run a little bit better than we have in moments, even though we gave up a couple big ones.
We've still got to tackle better.
You know, technically, we're not we're not tackling, well, the second, third level.
We're trying to knock people down with our shoulders.
Instead of throwing your chest on it, wrap it up and run your feet.
And we work on it all the time.
It's something that we've got to get better at.
I do think I, you know, without get into the weeds too much, have some reasons and some answers for why some of that stuff's happened.
And those things are are fixable down the road.
It's a little bit of a mindset deal.
But, it's kind of how the game played out, you know, 38 to 3 is is not a good score.
Last time they came in here, it was 66 seven, you know.
So I guess is that progress maybe.
You know, we had some things happen throughout the course of the game that people would recognize that I was not pleased with.
And they were reminiscent of a different day and time here.
And that will not happen under my watch.
And those things will get fixed immediately.
Because we're never going to allow our program to go back to that dark and miserable place.
Okay?
We're going to be a team.
We're going to be united.
We're going to love each other, and we're going to keep moving forward.
So those are some things culture that we will address immediately, and get handled.
And I think we can I think we can.
I think we've got a, group of really young, really passionate, hardworking kids.
And I appreciate them for that.
You get the sense he's talking about it, and I'm just assuming here.
But listening to what he's saying, it sounds like it's more of an issue of staying engaged, not giving up, not wanting to quit.
And he's not going to let that happen.
But he also talked about moments.
You heard him say the words moments.
A lot of times it seems like moments he's looking for is you want to go from a couple plays right, to a couple of series to a quarter, kind of start that the stair step because we saw a big play, great play.
52 yards gets down inside the five yard line.
Then unfortunately they went the wrong direction.
It's trying to build off that one big play.
Let's make it two.
So make it three.
And I think as a coach you're always trying to convince a player you want splash plays but you don't want you don't want rollercoaster players.
You don't want really highs and really lows.
And it's a very young team.
But I think as a young player, the way you you gain confidence from your coach and from your teammates is continually not making the same mistake twice.
And I think a player progression is you're going to mess it up, everybody messes it up second time you're going to mess it up, but you're going to you mess it up the third time you get it right.
That's the player progression you need to see week in, week out.
You can't keep making the same mistakes over and over.
Let's take a look at this.
This will kind of give you an idea of what we're talking about.
And give you an example of these young players.
He keeps talking about the youth, how young these players are.
But you can see what we mean by trying to find momentum and then get consistency.
Okay.
So this is part of the growing pains.
You just had 22 yards when you lost 71 yards and sacks and tackles for loss by doing so first play with a right side.
Oh we're going east West UAW class on.
It's a loss of two.
That's okay.
You come back to the line of scrimmage.
Nice play up the middle.
Good gain positive yardage.
Things are looking good.
But then here's the problem Johnson gets pressured.
Can't get out of the way gets a sack.
Let's try it again.
Now we've got to make up for those yards again Scott.
This is what we're talking about.
That consistency right.
Just just trying to find it when another splash play just another pass.
It's right.
And I think that graphic says everything turned to 202 yards -71 yards.
And sacks and tackles for loss.
And so you're have the negative plays are making it hard to have impactful plays.
Having positive plays having third and manageable.
Staying ahead of the chains, dictating the game on your terms.
So with all those negative plays, your your playbook changes, your game plan.
How you went in the game completely changes.
So you need to find a way to avoid the negative plays so you can keep building positive momentum.
Northwestern state is a team that is looking to keep building its confidence.
One team that is confident right now the Colonels from Nichols.
They've won now have a nice little win streak.
And they went out to Southwest Texas to take on the highest scoring team in the Southland Conference.
And that is the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Let's take out of the road and see if Ian Rodrigue and company could get the job done.
Them a nice wave of momentum that they are riding as of late.
They've had a lot of that success on road or at home.
Is it a chance that they could get it done on the road?
Watch that.
Don't mess with a guy from down at the park.
You you hear him, he loses his helmet.
And I don't think the becquerels realize who he's messing with.
This team has changed since they've inserted this young man a quarterback.
I mean, he's just chatting it up with no helmet.
Just get out of my face.
But here's what happened.
He lost his helmet.
He had to leave the game.
Deuce Hogan comes in on fourth and one throws it away.
Colonels drive stalls, double corrals.
They like to sling it as well.
Eddie Lee Marburger to Tavian cord 21 yards here.
Now on third and four, Marburger is going to roll hits Tony Diaz back corner of the end zone.
You can see him making the move to the corner.
He gets it at seven.
Nothing UT RGV but these are the newly confident Colonels.
Rodrigue quickly to Jackson Dufresne on fourth and two.
And that's good for 15.
That leads to a Michael Brock junior touchdown.
Can't find any room in the middle.
So he bounces it to the outside and we are tied at seven later it's a little pitch.
And catch here for Utrgv.
Marburger to Nathan Denney just over the top.
That's good for 23 yards.
Worked so well the first time.
They'll do it again.
It's Denny this time on the handoff.
He takes it in 14 seven.
But Carroll's end of the half.
Rodrigue up the middle.
Now forget the graphic for a moment because Nichols does not have a timeout left.
So instead of throwing to the sideline, he throws it to the middle.
Tick tick tick tick tick tick tick 1 to 5.
Now they gotta get the ball to line up to try to punch it.
They're seven yards away, but time runs out.
Didn't throw it to the sideline to have a chance to get out of bounds.
And the Colonels miss an opportunity at the end of the first half.
Third quarter Marlboro swiped by Trevion Moore off the deflection.
He brings it back 20 yards.
And the Colonels were in good shape.
In fact, it's so good that two plays later, Rodrigue hits Everett Hunter 16 yards here on the completion.
Gets it into the end zone at the pylon.
We're tied at 14 but the piccolos respond.
Denny again from seven yards out.
It's 2114.
Let's go to the fourth quarter.
Here's the tough break.
Rodrigue keeps it runs but gets the ball popped out.
Take another look at how close this was.
But you'll see it towards the end right there.
When it gets knocked out of his hands Rio Grande Valley jumps on top of it.
Marburger then Marburger excuse the splashes with 44 yards to Tavian Ford and that makes it 2814.
It was the separation that they were looking for.
The Colonels don't quit though.
Shane Lee comes back from eight yards out, takes it in with six minutes to go.
Once again, it's a one touchdown game.
Unfortunately for the Colonels, that's the last time they would visit the end zone.
Tommy right back his team.
As Scott mentioned this certainly is a different looking team with new confidence.
But they come up short 28 to 21 as a final.
Rodrigue throws for a buck 75 runs for another 23.
The Colonels lost two fumbles.
They gave up seven points on turnovers.
Look at that final margin.
Next up for the Colonels.
They will be at home against the demons from Northwestern State.
Oh what a game this was Louisiana Tech on the road at the newest member of a conference USA Delaware.
The Blue Hens making their debut.
Sonny Cumbie and company looking to get bowl eligible.
Sitting on five wins on the season.
Some early outstanding defense for Louisiana Tech.
First and ten Bulldogs pressure forced a loss of five.
Joel Silver had nowhere to run second and two and silvers gaining a lot of real estate East and West.
That's the kind of real estate you want.
It's a loss of four.
Their outstanding quarterback Nick Minnick, who goes to the air and he's picked off by Jakari Foster.
That's the 14th interception for Louisiana Tech's defense this season.
The dogs take advantage but the offense stalled.
So they have to settle for a field goal.
And Drew Henderson Neal misses it wide left through special teams warning with more on that in the moment.
Three nothing hands into the first quarter.
Clay Kevin in 37 yards.
He breaks into the end zone and we are up seven three for the Bulldogs.
Two plays before the score though Blake Baker on this play watch.
He goes down awkwardly.
He would stay in the game to hand off the ball to Tavernier who just scored.
That's the last we would see of Blake Baker on the day.
Second quarter Evan Bullock's in at quarterback.
He gets hit as he throws.
Is picked off by Nate Evans.
The defense holds the dogs get it back.
They go for a field goal from 49 yards out.
And it's still no good.
It's seven six Louisiana Tech is up under a minute to play in the half.
Look at this.
Pass a minute Coutu to call the pluses.
Look at that.
Catch leads to a field goal.
So Delaware has A97 lead at the half.
So let's go to the third quarter up against the own end zone coochie to Shawn Wilson.
And he breaks one.
And this is a back break a 51 yards.
Now they've got all sorts of real estate to work with.
And it leads to this third and two made it to to Plessis.
Another great catch in the corner of the end zone 16 seven Delaware 1610.
Now in the fourth.
Clay Tevin working 13 yards.
He finds the end zone.
And it's 1716 dogs 230 to go.
Fourth and ten.
Minna coochie right side.
And he's picked off by Joe Jacob Field and fields is gone.
It's a pick six for the Bulldogs.
And it's 24 to 16.
Oh they're looking good on the road but the Blue Hens aren't done.
Miller coochie to Elijah Sessoms three yards for the touchdown.
They're going to go for the two.
Get the stop and you're in good shape.
And the Bulldogs get the stop.
It's 2422.
Warning warning special teams Scott there's the bounce.
That is perfect bounce.
And I don't know what you do in that situation.
That's the toughest position to be in football.
On the onside kick.
That's a great bounce by the kid.
And it leads to this from 51 yards.
Nate Reed had never kicked it longer than 47.
That one was good from 58.
And that field goal at the end nails it.
And the blue hands come back and get the win 2524.
Here's head coach Sully coming.
You know mathematically it's got it's really hard.
And so you know that obviously is is and was one of our goals.
It also we want to try to get a bowl championship.
You know, and try to get to a bowl game.
And so that's, another one of our goal is it's still out there for us to achieve.
And, you know, we've got to make sure that we respond the right way with this and to bounce back because, you know, this is a tough one.
And, and, but it doesn't get any easier, you know, in the next three, two of the next three on the road, you know, against good, good teams that are playing well.
And then we've got a really good Liberty team coming and coming home for our last game.
So it'll be a big challenge for us down the stretch.
I think that, you know, they get their players.
I think they did a really good job of keeping their same demeanor and understanding that they had a job to do.
From the standpoint of execution, whether you had Blake in Evan and or Trey in.
And so, you know, I was pleased with us from an offensive standpoint, from that standpoint and from that area.
I thought that Klay and Wiggs ran the football extremely hard and physical and made big plays.
I thought Andrew Barnett did a nice job when he came in.
And, you know, we, we've got to be able to hit some of those shots when it's man to man, you know, whether it's the throw or the guys going off making a play with Evan.
You know, I think they're going to have to continue to find a rhythm with Evan and Blake, with both of those guys.
As far as going through, playing both of them, because that's what it's going to look like, you know, moving forward.
You know, if Blake is out a significant amount of time, you know, that's going to have to be our answer, and they're going to have to be do a good job of that.
Bulldogs are going to evaluate Blake take a long trip back home.
They're gonna look at him on today and then on Monday to get an idea here.
The standings now in the conference USA still sitting on five wins.
They're still going to play Liberty and Missouri State that third game.
You talk about this next weekend.
They're going over to the west to Washington State.
And Scott it just speaks to the fact here quickly as you wrap up special teams all three phases of the game.
And unfortunately special teams let Louisiana Tech down in various ways.
Yeah the miss kick early in the game then the onside kick there it was more a great onside kick than anything that Louisiana Tech did.
But you don't want to be that position.
I think the one thing is you need to find a way to play better on the road.
But Blake Baker going out really changes the offense.
Yeah, we're going to see what they can do now to prepare this week and see if Blake Baker can indeed come back for when they head off to the northwest to take on Washington state.
That's going to wrap it up for this week.
And we're so glad you joined us for Scott.
Charlie, I'm Victor Hall.
We'll look forward to seeing you next week.
