I'm Linda, the executive producer of Louisiana Public Broadcasting, and I'm joined by Wil McGrew, who is the CEO of Tela, Louisiana.

This is a program that we broadcast last live to Paris in prime time and to the rest of the world.

This was a global event, and it was a partnership with TV Sync Mont.

and this is a relationship that Louisiana has with TV sync.

Can you tell us a little bit about just how did this program come about?

Definitely.

And for those who don't know, Davis Hank Moreland is, a French public broadcaster, and it's actually a partnership between the major French public broadcasters in the different francophone countries.

so Canada, France, Belgium, etc.. and this program is something they do biannually.

It's called la piece de la Francophonie.

And so it's the trail of the French speaking world.

and every two years there's a different theme.

And this year the theme was the planet.

And so our environment, the Earth, etc., and it's a 17 hour event and it's one hour live from each of the cities and each of the, sister public broadcasters.

And so what was cool is after we went to Paris, we had met some of the TV segments, staff who had seen lava, which we've been producing with LPB for two years now.

and so they asked us, how do you all feel about producing for the first time, an hour live from Baton Rouge right before the two finale hours, which were three hours, and in Paris.

And so we said, yes.

Well, we talked to LPB and then they said yes.

And then we said yes, and we made it happen.

We said yes.

And this really is a first is the first time LPB has broadcast live, internationally like this, and certainly the first time that we broadcast live to Paris.

Like I said, there are millions of people that got to see this worldwide, not just in France, but in French Canada, in Africa, even in other countries where there's French expats or French speaking communities.

And so people emailed us or they were in the comments online.

And so I don't want to be too controversial, but I do think it's nice to kind of share some news that we heard from a lot of the higher up executives at TV saying that in this 17 hour program, the Baton Rouge Hour was one of their favorites, if not their favorite of the hours.

And I thought we did a really good job sharing Louisiana culture, but also hitting home at that theme, which was the planet and the relationship, you know, between the environment.

And one thing that was really cool is that we had a lot of new faces, but we also had some faces that were already known to these audiences, even internationally, one of which is Troy Landry from Pierre, apart from Olivier, story.

And so Drake, what was what was that like, kind of getting to spend some time with the renowned, Cajun alligator hunter, Mr. Landry for that man, Troy Landry.

It was funny because, you know, there's a lot of different corners of Louisiana.

We have a lot of differences.

But when we sat down with Troy Landry, I felt like it was an old porch talk with one of my uncles or one of my cousins.

so it's really nice to hear his stories.

And I feel like, you know, the stories that have already been shared because of the The Swamp People show on television.

But hearing them in French and it's like a natural dialect.

And, you know, when he grew up speaking at home with his neighbors and his peers, I think just the nature of the interactions.

So it was really awesome to share that experience and feel like we were really present in the moment with Troy Landry and his neighbors and his family.

And, you know, we're just trying to be as famous as him, if we're being honest, that is pretty awesome.

That I mean, Landa, of course, is a known commodity globally.

But I've heard you guys have even been recognized from lobby for just walking down the streets of Paris.

It was interesting, Will, that when TV Saint Martin came to us and said, we want you to do this program, they wanted to hear about the environment and these challenges.

We started the first season with this story of the on Charles and the climate relocation there.

And then the second season, you know, kind of on a more positive note, we started with the story of a coal plantation.

you know, in a story that LPB has covered Through the Precipice, a documentary by UN directed by Ben Johnson.

and really shows that there's both challenges, but also opportunities for communities on the frontline to face these face these struggles.

And, you know, Caitlin, you are a producer for the show and also for La VA. and you're an overall.

So you're from a few bayous over.

And so what is your experience been like?

You know, growing up with that relationship between the people, the land and the culture?

Oh, definitely.

In, you know, southern Lafourche Parish, we definitely understand the the severity of the issue that hurricanes pose, both to our coast and to our culture.

You know, if the the land isn't there, then the people aren't there.

And if the people aren't there, then the culture can't be there either.

So it's extremely important to, you know, continue with these land preservation efforts that we've seen, especially along the coast in Louisiana, just to keep our our state and our culture alive.

We have to tell these stories.

It is, an important part of Opie's mission.

and one of the funnest things about working with Louisiana Dunleavy and programs like this is refreshing my French, which, is was rusty after four years of high school, had not used up very much.

And, my crew is is very, like me and that I think some of us had a smattering of French, but not a whole lot.

And we found ourselves producing a live broadcast going to France and around the world and other French speaking territories.

And, for us in the control room, it was a little exciting to do that.

Definitely.

I mean, it was a learning experience, and I think the three collaborations between us TV sank NLP.

It really added value because I know the LP team has a wealth of experience.

Documentaries, live TV news and so it was kind of unique though to together for the first time produce a live TV hour.

And then the French component added, oh yeah, we do live television, but not necessarily to Paris.

And Caitlin, this was a first for you.

Yes.

I had never directed before.

This was my first time in the control room getting to, you know, be in that capacity of the behind the scenes.

Usually I'm just in the field producing.

So, learning that, you know, that skill in addition to translating between the TV think French crew and the LPB English speaking crew was quite a feat.

But you did an outstanding job.

So did you.

Well, And I have to compliment our our production team and the engineers who, were very, very courageous and said, yeah, we can take this on.

And we actually managed to pull it off.
